Aktion Storch

Everyday life/Politics, Germany 1945

Informative short film about "Aktion Storch", which began on 26 October 1945. "50,000 come to the countryside", headlines a Berlin newspaper in October 1945. The British have decided to evacuate children from their sector in Berlin to their zone in West Germany. There the four to 14-year-olds are to recover. For after the battle for the Reich capital, the inhabitants live in hardship. As in all of Europe, hunger reigns in Berlin after the Second World War. Hundreds of thousands of refugees, displaced persons, forced labourers and concentration camp survivors have to be fed there in addition to the local population.
