Andy (Marquard Bohm) and Sebastian (Ulli Lommel) are broke. In order to get money as quickly as possible, they take an example from their favourite films and open a detective agency. But the two would-be detectives make one mistake after the other and become increasingly entangled in matters that are none of their business. Micky (Uschi Obermaier) and Annabella (Iris Berben) come on the scene, two women who the detectives' find very attactive.
With "Detectives", Rudolf Thome has succeeded in creating a laconic crime comedy with grotesque, extremely cool and subtle punchlines, as previously only known from the Nouvelle Vague.
